Just the thought of clearing clutter can seem like the most overwhelming and stressful thing to do. Where do I start? What do I do with all of my stuff? I need more space? are some of the questions that may come to mind. Just think of the feeling you will have and the burden that will be lifted off your shoulders. When you have completed a decluttering project you will not only find things that you thought were lost forever but you may just see things in a new light.
These are just some ways I like to tackle a decluttering project:
1. Think of it as an adventure in the making. What will I discover today and where will this project lead to next.
Adventures can be whatever you believe will excite you to want more of. For example it can be just like searching for treasure and finding something unique that you always thought had little use but when you find it again it is something that is now useful and needed.
2. Play some of your favourite music and keep them tunes playing or just sing as you go, if you like.
Music is one of the most healing and soothing things to keep you moving. Well sometimes you may even move a bit too much if you no what I mean hahahaha. So try to not to get too excited when your favourite song comes on, as you maybe too distracted busting those moves that you forget what you were doing.
3. Create a plan from the get go.
If you have a solid plan in place for what you want to achieve. You will not only envision the end results but you will feel a sense of excitement in reaching the end of the project. This will make you do things more quickly and with more enthusiasm.
4. Get some assistance.
Get someone to help you clear the clutter and make a party out of it. If you drink, buy some drinks and a few snacks and have a laugh with friend while you tackle your clutter. If you need more assistance hire a Professional Organiser that will incorporate all of the above and know how to optimise space.
5. Get your family involved.
Make it a bonding experience and spend quality time with your family. If you've decided to sort through some of your old possessions that you have held onto for many years, why not get your family involved and maybe reminisce on the past. Sharing stories can bring back memories and even if those memories are not happy ones you can be grateful for the lessons you have learnt. Life is a journey and it is not always going to be a smooth ride but with time and experience, we tend to look back and sometimes laugh at some of the mistakes and mishaps that have occurred.
These are just a few ideas that you can use when you need to declutter and organise your home.
